You may have come across our Instagram page (@lotus_slp) already, where we share information and interesting tidbits related to speech therapy, mindfulness, yoga, brain injury and much more. If not, head on over to our page here!
A new series
Our posts vary day to day, but one of the series we’ve started adding to regularly is called “SLP Quick Tips”. Katherine and I have been working as SLPs since 2011 in a variety of settings (from schools to outpatient rehab to inpatient rehab to virtual private practice!) and we’re passionate about sharing our knowledge in the interest of collaboration and community in the field of speech-language pathology. There are plenty of ways to continue learning throughout your career (reading research articles, attending virtual or in-person CEU courses, the annual ASHA convention, etc). While these are all valuable resources, there is something to be said for learning new therapy ideas or tips in bite-size chunks. Enter: Instagram!
Learning on-the-go
Instagram is an excellent tool for learning about pretty much any topic you can think of. It delivers information in easily-digestible chunks that busy professionals can take in when they have a spare moment or two. I’ve come across many accounts that have posted therapy ideas that make me say, “Wow, what a great idea!”. We were inspired to add to that community by building an ever-growing library of tips through our “SLP Quick Tips” series of reels. Some of the tips we’ve posted about already include:
- A memory strategy consisting of pairing a daily planner with an alarm
- Information about Aphasia ID Cards
- Functional therapy materials you can find around your house
- iPhone accessibility tip: Speak Selection
- Tips to review your week and plan your weekend
We’re always adding new SLP Quick Tips, so make sure you check our page regularly for more ideas! Is there anything you’d like to see? Shoot us a message with your thoughts!
