What's the difference between your practice and traditional speech therapy?
Traditional speech therapy often focuses on addressing a specific communication disorder through a structured assessment and treatment plan. Typically, insurance only covers therapy that is considered "medically necessary" for you to live safely and independently. There is often a long wait for services.
My approach goes beyond that and thinks outside the box. I work with you to fine-tune the skills and strategies that matter most in your every-day life. Whether that means expressing yourself clearly, improving attention or memory, or figuring out what actually works for YOU your daily life. My consultations offer expert guidance around specific situations, goals, or challenges. You'll leave our first session with recommendations and plan for the week.
What types of clients do you have experience working with?
I've worked with people with a variety of medical diagnoses, and have also worked with people who simply have a personal goal to improve their communication or cognitive skills at home, work, or school.
I am a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, and specialize in supporting people with acquired brain injury such as concussion, traumatic brain injury, and stroke. I also specialize in aphasia therapy.
I have also completed the SPEAK OUT! training through the Parkinson Voice Project; I no longer offer this program but continue to specialize in helping people with Parkinson's find their voice. Learn more about my Parkinson's program →
I also have experience working with aging adults, whether they want to be proactive about preventing cognitive decline, or already have a diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment, Primary Progressive Aphasia, or other dementia.
I've been practicing for over 15 years, so have also supported people with ADHD, Multiple Sclerosis, brain tumor, cancer-related cognitive impairment, long-COVID symptoms, transgender voice, and accent modification.
Do you offer an initial consultation?
Yes! I offer a free 15-minute introductory meeting so that you can learn more about me and my practice, and I can learn more about you and your goals. Book your consultation now →
How much do your services cost?
Each 50-minute session is $160. Payment is collected by credit card is expected at or before the time of service.
Do you accept insurance?
No. Lotus Speech & Wellness is a private-pay practice, and does not accept or bill health insurance. We no longer provide Superbills.
This allows me to offer a higher-level, more flexible, personalized approach that is not limited by insurance requirements. We can focus on your goals, your priorities, and the areas where you want expert guidance, with the flexibility to determine how often we meet and what we work on together.
How many sessions will I have with you, and how often will we meet?
We will decide this together at our first session. Rather than following a predetermined treatment plan, we focus on the specific situations you're navigating and the skills and strategies you want to fine tune, and meet only as-needed.
During our first session we will identify your priority goals. You will leave that first session with clear goals and strategies to try on your own. I typically recommend that we have our second session the following week, so that I can check in on how things are going and problem solve barriers or situations that arose. From that point on, we might continue to meet weekly for a few more weeks, or transition to meeting monthly, depending on what best fits your needs.
Do I have to live in Maine to work with you?
Yes, you must be in Maine to work with me - I am licensed by the state of Maine.
Currently, all services are offered online, making my practice accessible to folks from York to Caribou!
